Zhang Longxi

Zhang Longxi received his master’s degree in English literature from Peking University in 1981, and his doctoral degree in comparative literature from Harvard University in 1989. He once taught at Peking University, Harvard University and University of California at Riverside, and is currently a professor of comparative literature and translation at the City University of HK.

He has long been engaged in the comparative study of Chinese and Western literature and culture, and enjoys a high reputation in the international academic community. Zhang Longxi has been invited to deliver speech at many famous universities, such as the Fagu Humanities Lecture of Taiwan University(2004), the Alexander Lectures of the University of Toronto(2005), the Renato Lecture of Harvard University(2010), the Freeman Lecture of Wesleyan University(2010), the Guanghua Distinguished Humanities Scholar Lectures of Fudan University(2011), the Sisir Kumar Das Memorial Lecture in India(2017),etc.

From 2007 to 2009, he was hired at Beijing Foreign Studies University as a professor of Changjiang Lecture of the Ministry of Education. He was the only Chinese scholar to be selected as an academician in the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities in 2009. In 2013, he was reelected as a foreign academician of the European Academy. Zhang is a consultant editor ofNew Literary History, one of the most influential literary publication in the United States. He is also the editor-in-chief ofthe Journal of World Literature. He was elected the President of the International Society of Comparative Literature at the General Conference held at the University of Vienna in 2016.

Zhang Longxi has published more than 20 monographs and 200 papers in Chinese and English, a number of which has been translated into French, Spanish, Portuguese, Hebrew, Japanese and Korean. Two of his English books have been translated into Korean, Chinese, Japanese and Arabic.
